Dissertation writing is very different from thesis writing. Dissertation papers are by nature, lengthy and formal. Though thesis is at the same rate formal, dissertations are more concerned with originality and substance.
Since dissertation writing is more complex than thesis writing, it is better to at least have the idea of what quality dissertation papers look like.
1. Expressed in present tense
All dissertation papers must be written in present tense. Since these papers aim to add something new to the present knowledge of the world, it must pose immediacy.
2. Uses active voice
Active voice makes the sentences clearer. In active voice, the writer readily reveals the doer of the action. This creates an impression of transparency.
3. Doesn’t give much assessment on commercial value
Dissertation papers focus on the scientific rather than commercial value of an experiment. Hence one cannot assume the success of an experiment or tool based on its market ability. The study must give much credit on the help that an experiment can contribute to the human race.
4. Free from politics
In dissertation papers, the writer must not see an experiment or any work as something related to its maker. The work has a value of its own and it can stand even without the need of referring the author. This kind of study does not give much credit whether the maker of the work is award winning or not.
5. Objective
Dissertation is an in-depth study, so, the writer must not favor any side. Otherwise, he will not gather concrete conclusion.
6. Uses proper citation
If thesis and regular writing requires citation, dissertations are strict about this matter. When citing two or more authors of a single book, one should stay on singular verb.
7. Clear
The sentences must not have unnecessary words. Every word must be useful, and therefore, the sentences are more powerful if they are short.
