No one is nelegal

There are about three million people who live illegally in Moscow. They work and live in the city without a special permission, called "propiska", since in Russia there is even internally no freedom of movement. NELEGAL.NET provides advice for them. After the appartment bombings in 1998 and a significant raise of repression against illegals the website has been started by Alexander Milovanov, a young computer programmer and part-time journalist, who has been a nelegal — or illegal — since he arrived from Krasnodar twelve years ago. Attracted by the buzz of the big city, Milovanov refused to be intimidated by the whim of bureaucrats and law-enforcement officials who often make registering in Moscow far more complicated than federal law suggests it should be. "We are fighting for freedom of movement against injustice, human rights violations, police and authorities brutality in Moscow, and not only..." The site in Russian has more than 100 articles from different sources, letters from its visitors and users, bestseller advisory for illegals how to survive in Moscow, and the current information.

Voisiko joku levittää tätä Suomessa?

The Website nelegal.ru is supporting interests of "illegal" workforce in Moscow. Few years ago there were 5 million workers in Moscow without "propiska" (residence permit), most of them Russian citizens. Website has opened a campaign against Finnish department store chain Stockmann because company maintains illegal (according to Russian laws) practice of discriminating workers without residence permission in employment. SUBJECT: human rights violation in ZAO "Stockmann" (Moscow, Russia)

Dear Stockmann management,

Herewith I would like to notify you regarding the human rights violation by your subsidary ZAO "Stockmann" (Moscow, Russia). All the public ads with the empolyment offers distributed by ZAO "Stockmann" in local media state that the position would ONLY be offered to people officially registered in Moscow-city and Moscow area.

We think this violates the corporate rules of Stockmann as the equal opportunities company (and we would add 'A respectable western company'). Moreover, this directly contradicts the Labor Code of Russian Federation (article 64). In your terms this would sound like 'Stockmann Helsinki will only provide the position to people registered in Helsinki'. No Vantaa people, we do not need you!

The management of ZAO "Stockmann" in Moscow has been informed regarding that, but they still place the ads with this disreputable notice.

Please take care of it and inform us regarding the results. We leave the right to contact Finnish mass media if no actions are taken.

With kind regards,
